A Beautiful Necessity

I finally finished these - and I love them.  That Girl wants to steal them, but I don't think I will let her.  I knit them and then I embroidered them - that was a fair amount of work.
A Beautiful Necessity by Anna Zilboorg - another free-sole sock pattern.  This pattern is available through Blue Moon Fiber Arts.

Splendid socks! The embroidery outlines the knitted pattern?

Very nice!! I'm part way through the free-sole pattern, but I'm still scratching my head wondering how I "free the sole" if or when the heel gives out. Do you know?

I haven't done it myself, but I know the sides where you join the bottom to the top come off easily. So I think I would start by slipping a small DPN through the stitches where I want to start reknitting and then cut across the sole above the whole. Then I would ravel down to my needle, reknit the sole and graft my new sole to the stitches left above the cut.
