Book write up and giveaway!

Tanis Gray, who was the photographer for the Mitered Entrelac book has posted an interview with Laura Barker, the author.  It is very interesting with descriptions of the technique and projects.  She is also giving away a copy of the book, so head on over there and have a look!

Boxing Day Walk

It was a gorgeous day - temps in the 60's, not much wind, lots of sun.  I wish we could keep this weather for a while longer . . .

The Book!

The book is out! This is the book that Dena and I were helping with when I was visiting her in September. It is all about a new way to knit entrelac that is fun and useful. Mitered Entrelac became available on amazon just a couple of weeks ago and I highly recommend it! Knit the wash cloth to learn how to use this technique and then move on from there.

Double Thick

This was the latest destination on the Miss Babs Tour . . . a yarn and pattern club that lasts a year.  Each shipment is a destination with a little book with travel information, recipes and the pattern.

This little shawlette is two layers thick so nice and warm.  I made mine a little longer than the pattern called for (the ending blue strip and one yellow and one blue above that) because I didn't want to waste the yarn.

I actually plan to wear it as a neck scarf because it is so soft and nice and will keep me so warm when it's cold here . . . and yes, I do plan to work that last end in and not leave it dangling!

I am not sitting in the sun on a beach

I have finished my second entrelac mat which is about to be blocked.   Teresa blocked the first one.  Do you think I can talk her into leaving the beach, flying two thousand miles, and blocking it for me?

I am working on brioche stitch scarf.

The pattern is Cinnabar Scarf by Nancy Marchant. I think it will be lovely when it is done. Right now I am deciding on colors. The main color is going to be an orange with super long color changes.  It is the second color that I am working on.  I found a really pretty rust color. Called merlot heather.   I thought it would be perfect with the Orange. When knitted up together it looks brown.   Brown and orange.  Halloween.

So I went with a dark green.  I think I like the green and orange combo much better.

The scarf calls for 35 stitches making 4 3/4 inches.  I moved to the size needle called for in the pattern and did   25 stitches.   Came out to more than 4 inches. Can't tell exactly how many inches because I have lost  every one of my measuring devices and rulers.  Oh well.  I really wanted the scarf to be wider than 4 inches.  Now it will be.

Step 1.   Remember how to do one color brioche stitch.  DONE
Step 2.    Remember how to do two color brioche stitch. DONE
Step 3.   Decide on colors.  DONE
Step 4.  Do gauge swatch.  No measuring device but do you really need one to do a gauge swatch?  DONE
Step 5. Have a glass of wine.  Or coffee with Bailey's.  Off to do that now

Baby Hat

This was for another friend who had a new grandson.  This baby isn't a year old yet, but will be soon.  I will mail this to them for the first birthday - it's a size 24 months, so should still fit.  Another thing that should have been done a long time ago - can you tell that I am finishing up bits and pieces?  I have a couple more that are started and almost finished . . . coming soon!

Mr. Penguin

I love the Fiber Trend felted animals patterns!  They always turn out so darned cute and they are easier to make than it looks.  This is for a friend's new grandson - well, he was new but it has taken me so long to make this that he is probably not so new now.
I think he will still like it.

River Song's Diary

A month or so ago, Girl Far From Home started having trouble with her Nook ereader.  We tried to refresh it here and then took it to Barnes&Noble to have them look at it.  They said they'd seen it before and, although they gave it a good go, were not able to get it working again - some kind of internal short was making the screen flash which wasn't pleasant.  So, she got the new version of the least expensive one.  Sadly, there are no protective cases available for the new version - just one drop in pouch.  It fits in the older cases, but doesn't stay in when they are moved, so they aren't really safe for it.

So, I found this River Song's Diary cover on Ravelry and decided to make it for the girl.  Sadly, the nook is small enough that it doesn't stretch the knitting enough so this doesn't exactly look like its best.  But the girl knows what it is supposed to be and she will enjoy it.  It was a fun and quick knit.

Pick Pockets

Pick Pockets . . .  I made the striped one a while ago and gave it to a daughter.  She never used it, probably misplaced it, so I asked for it back.  Then I made the larger one for the metal finger picks and the smaller one because I liked the yarn.  The other daughter is getting the striped one and the blue/green pair is for me.

They are meant to hang on the tuning pegs so your picks are always ready and available.
There is a pattern available on Ravelry for knit Guitar Pick Pouches but it is priced at $5 which is a little much for something so simple.  I just made this up as I went along.

It's a puzzle . . .

table! And a darn cool one too! It is currently set at standing height but has four height adjustments. It I set at the medium incline, but the top can be level, this angle or an even steeper angle. The felt surface keeps the pieces from sliding. It is really nice!

Half Calla, off the needles

This one has been on the needles for over a year now . . . it is nice to finally have those needles back!
The color isn't photographing well - much less pink than it shows here.
The pattern is not available for this one yet - it was a test knit.
